X-fix WOOD-WOOD Connection Systems as the "Key" to Winning the GERMAN TIMBER CONSTRUCTION AWARD

As extensively reported in various trade media, a high-caliber expert jury has decided to award the "COLLEGIUM ACADEMICUM" project at LIGNA with the German Timber Construction Award 2025 and justified the award, among other things, as follows:

The chosen constructive approach, as a building system, shows innovative potential to ensure good deconstructability and recyclability through timber connections. For all connection details, single-material, form-fit, and force-fit connections based on traditional carpentry techniques were developed, and the joining elements were integrated into the component geometry. New processing techniques enable an economic renaissance of old carpentry techniques that completely do without metallic fasteners.

With approx. 3,500 X-fix C connectors, the wall elements constructed in timber frame were pre-assembled at the ZÜBLIN TIMBER factory, and the CLT/BSP ceilings were laid on site in record time.

For us as the X-fix wood connector team, this is the second biggest success after the HASLE TRE project in Oslo, which won the Scandinavian Timber Construction Award 2024 for its circular deconstructability with X-fix, and it confirms us in our endeavor to manufacture and further develop connection elements and systems made of wood, so that timber constructions can be executed as metal-free and recyclable (Cradle to Cradle) as possible.
