TU Graz: X-fix is by far the cheapest ceiling connection per linear meter of ceiling joint

An economic analysis by the TU Graz-based holz.bau forschungs GmbH, conducted as part of the major project “Woodscraper Wolfsburg”, confirms: X-fix system connectors for cross-laminated timber (CLT) enable the most cost-effective ceiling connection per linear meter of ceiling joint.

The following commonly used connection techniques in practice were compared:

X-fix C 96-130-90

OSB decking with grooved nails

Stepped joint with screw fastening

The decisive advantage of X-fix is the significantly shorter installation time on site. This results in the lowest overall costs – while also allowing for fully circular and non-destructive disassembly.

The analysis included all cost components , including:

CNC cutting and milling costs

Material costs

Installation costs

other site costs

The result: X-fix offers the lowest overall costs per linear meter of ceiling joint – and circular disassembly is included at no extra cost.
